Symptom. Backing up (or restoring) from a client PC fails with The server does not allow client to backup database… Backups from the server itself work.
Cause 1 — client backups are switched off on the server. AutoCount Server Monitor controls whether workstations may back up or restore.
- On the server, right-click the AutoCount Server Monitor icon in the tray and open Backup/Restore Setting.
- Tick Allow client PCs to backup database (and Allow client PCs to restore database if workstations should restore too).
- Save & Apply, then OK. Try the backup from the workstation again.
Cause 2 — the backup port is blocked. The backup service listens on TCP 19500. If a firewall or antivirus on the server blocks it, workstations cannot reach the backup service even when the setting above is on. Add an inbound rule for TCP 19500 (and an antivirus exception for AutoCount) on the server.
Tip. If only one workstation fails, check that PC's firewall and antivirus first; if every workstation fails, start with the Server Monitor setting.
