Symptom. Restoring an Account Book stops with The Server Backup Shared Folder and the Client Access Shared Folder Path does not point to same folder… Cannot open backup device… Operating system error 5 (Access is denied). RESTORE FILELIST is terminating abnormally.
Cause. AutoCount unpacks the backup into the Windows user's temp folder (%TEMP%\AutoCount) before SQL Server reads it. When the SQL Server service account cannot read that folder, the restore fails with Access is denied — the message about shared folders is misleading.
Fix.
- Press Win + R, type
%temp%and press Enter. - Right-click the AutoCount folder → Properties → Security → Edit → Add.
- Type
Everyone, click Check Names, then OK. - Give Everyone full control, then Apply and OK.
- Run the restore again.
Tip. This usually appears after a new Windows user profile or a reinstalled SQL Server, because the temp folder was created with permissions the SQL service account does not have.
